South Korea Leads the World in Fiber Adoption
DSL only accounts for 35% of fixed broadband subscriptions across OECD countries, but high-speed fiber continues to make steady progress. The OECD has estimated that the share of fiber connections has now risen to 26.8%, up from 12 percent nine years ago. Ireland saw the largest increase in fiber connections, with Belgium (192 percent) and the United Kingdom (144 percent) growing by 532 percent in two years.

There are significant gaps in the share of fiber broadband connections between countries and South Korea came first with 81.7% in Q2 2019, just ahead of 79% in Japan. However, if the United States has a lot of work to do to catch up with 15.6 percent, it is already ahead of Italy (6.0 percent), Germany (3.6 percent) and the United Kingdom (2.3 percent)
