The Cities With The Most Fatal Police Shootings In The U.S.
St. Louis has the highest number of deadly shootings per 100,000 people. About 36 of every 100,000 residents of St. Louis are shot and killed by police officers. This is 23 percent higher than Orlando, which has had the second-largest number of deadly shootings per 100,000 people. Ninety of the 100 cities we surveyed had fewer than half the number of fatal shootings in St. Louis. Kansas City, another Missouri metropolis, is also number 6 in the top ten.

Although New York City is the most populated city in the United States, with more than twice as many residents as the second most populous city, Los Angeles, it currently has the lowest rate of people killed by the police: 0.2 out of every 100,000 (or one in every half a million). This is 83 percent lower than Plano, TX, 99th place city, and 99.5 percent lower than St. Louis.

Police killing numbers are part of the argument over the use of unnecessary force due to the obligation to protect and serve, but they don't say the whole story. If we examine police shootings by race, the data reveals a large gap. A significant number of black people killed by the police have been used to indicate a racial disparity in law enforcement.
